Jump aboard a sailing boat for a five day running adventure on the West Coast of Scotland. Sail over to the Small Isles, the Isle of Skye and the wilderness peninsula of Knoydart, and anchor up in beautiful remote bays before heading out onto rugged wild trails.
These varied islands and peninsulas are full of interesting routes, including the infamous jagged ridges of the Rum Cuillin, the breath taking hills of the Isle of Skye and Knoydart, as well as stunning coastal running routes to secluded beaches and fascinating ancient burial grounds.
And the best thing about having our own boat? We get dropped off at one point, run on trails, mountains, and ridges, and get picked up at the other end, making the routes in and out unique and brilliant! This is the decadent way of running on Scottish islands!
Our aim is to do as many interesting routes as possible depending on tides, the weather and the wind so there are many factors to consider - this is sailing and running in Scotland, so who knows?! We aim to go high, running ridges and mountains, and if the conditions don’t allow for this then we run lower altitude coastal and wilderness routes which are equally as interesting and breathtaking.
Running will be mainly on rough trails, open hills, ridges which may be exposed at times (but no ropes needed), coastal paths and, inevitably, Scottish boggy ground (which we try to avoid as much as possible!). Running days will vary in length depending on the conditions, but if it’s a really good weather day then we’re likely to stay out for at least 4 hours.
As this can be rough terrain, runners need to be happy and experienced running on rough trails to avoid twisting ankles. These are likely to be hilly days so get that hill training before you come! Of course, this isn’t about racing up these mountains, it’s about running in beautiful places and taking it all in, but it does help to have a good level of fitness.
